ROBIN VAN PERSIE NAMED CAPTAIN OF HOLLAND NATIONAL TEAM!...

Holland coach Louis van Gaal has named Robin van Persie as his new captain after leaving Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder out of the
squad for next week's friendly against Portugal.

Van Gaal last month demoted Sneijder from his job as team captain, saying he wasn't in sufficiently good shape.
He said as he announced the squad for the August 14 match on Friday that Sneijder has the talent to return to the squad when his form improves.

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is the new Oranje captain. The 30-year old has 35 goals in 76 caps since making his national debut in 2005.

In other notable changes, Van Gaal called up FC Ausburg defender Paul Verhaeg for the first time. Ajax captain Siem de Jong was in Van Gaal's
preliminary selection but didn't make the final cut.
