ROONEY,WILSHERE,WALCOTT,COLE AND LAMBERT AMONGST OTHERS NAMED IN ENGLAND SQUAD TO FACE SCOTLAND ON AUGUST 14TH!..

Wayne Rooney has been named in the England squad for the game against Scotland on August 14 despite missing Manchester United's pre-season preparations.

The striker is keen to leave Old Trafford and is the subject of serious interest from Chelsea, who have had two bids rejected in recent weeks, and has been forced to train with the reserves as he angles for a move to Stamford Bridge.

Rooney was due to return from a hamstring injury in Tuesday's friendly against AIK in Sweden, but pulled out of the travelling party on Monday with a shoulder injury the club say he picked up in a behind-closed-doors match.

Red Devils team-mate Wilfried Zaha is also in Roy Hodgson's squad for the match at Wembley on Wednesday.

Arsenal's Jack Wilshere returns to the squad for the first time since February's 2-1 win over Brazil, though has featured only sparingly in the Gunners' pre-season friendlies after an ankle injured hampered his involvement in the club's run-in last term.

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert has been called up to the England squad for the first time in his career, a selection which represents a meteoric rise for the 31-year-old all the way from the fourth-tier of English football.

Lambert helped the Saints earn back-to-back promotions, and was the joint-highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League last season, notching 15 times - a tally only equalled by Frank Lampard.

Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy is also back in the squad, earning his first call-up since August last year after spending much of the previous season sidelined, while injury-plagued Ashley Young returns for the first time since the defeat against Sweden in November.

England squad in full: Foster, Hart, Ruddy; Baines, Cahill, Cole, Jagielka, Johnson, Jones, Smalling, Walker; Carrick, Cleverley, Gerrard, Lampard, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Wilshere, Young, Zaha; Defoe, Lambert, Rooney, Welbeck.
